Position Summary
The Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the lab of Dr. Yolanda Huang within the Department of Microbiology & Immunology. Our overarching research goal is to advance our understanding of the gut microbiota at the molecular level. We study microbial functions important for bacteria to colonize and survive in the gut habitat. Potential projects include studying carbon metabolic pathways and genetic determinants underlying bacteria-phage interactions in Bacteroidales. We are a new lab looking to grow with funding from foundation and NIH. Research projects leverage cutting-edge techniques, including DNA barcoding, sequencing techniques, and high-throughput functional genomics.
Responsibilities will include leading research projects, developing new protocols, mentoring others in the lab, presenting research outcomes, and publishing. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, or a related field, and have demonstrated research productivity. The lab is committed to the success of all members and provides mentorship and opportunities for research and career development.
Expertise in any of the following areas is an asset: microbiology of anaerobes and phages, assay development, functional genomics, generation and analysis of sequencing data, -omics techniques, bioinformatics, biochemistry, and analytical chemistry (HPLC, LC-MS).

Minimum Qualifications
PhD in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise in one or more of the following: isolation/cultivation of anaerobes and/or phages, anaerobic techniques, functional genomics, sequencing, high-throughput assay development, biochemistry, bioinformatics, analytical chemistry (LC-MS, HPLC), and microbial genetics
Ability to analyze, publish, and present research data
Self-motivation, ability to work independently and collaborative within a team, time-management and organizational skills, strong communication skills
Physical Demands
Salary Range $55,000 - $65,000
