A Postdoctoral Associate position is currently available in the Kussell Lab at NYU’s Center for Genomics and Systems Biology for an experimentalist working at the intersection of quantitative microbiology and evolutionary dynamics.

Current projects in the lab are focused on understanding how gene regulatory strategies and physiological mechanisms – including stress responses, stochastic switches, and phenotypic memory – evolve in bacterial populations under fluctuating conditions. We use a combination of quantitative microbiology techniques, synthetic biology, microfluidics, microscopy, and sequencing-based methods to track population structure during temporal fluctuations. We use biophysical theory and modeling to develop analytical frameworks that enable mechanistic inferences, inform experimental design, and reveal new biological functions.

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD, have prior research experience in experimental microbiology, and have a track record of peer-reviewed publications. In particular, the candidate would ideally have prior experience in one or more of the following: bacterial physiology, experimental biophysics, synthetic biology, recombineering, microfluidics, and/or microscopy.
