Job Description The Hume lab at Boston Universitys National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories (NEIDL) is seeking a Research Technician with experience in BSL-2 cell culture techniques with a preference for someone who has experience with standard virological methods. We are seeking an individual who is proactive, organized, and thoughtful and who will contribute to a dynamic research laboratory.
Responsibilities will include performing experiments to determine the potency and resistance profile of a small molecule inhibitor that targets viral polymerases. The research will involve work with filoviruses, including Marburg virus. The individual will be responsible for cell culture, virus preparation and titration, viral growth assays, microscopy analysis of virus-infected cells, sequence analysis, and molecular cloning. The individual will also be responsible for data analysis and maintenance of laboratory records. Due to the highly pathogenic nature of the viruses involved, this project will involve working at biosafety level 4 (BSL-4). Training will be provided for working at BSL-4, but prior experience in virology is an advantage. Outstanding attention to safety training and standard operating protocols is essential. Responsibilities will also include maintaining virus and compound inventory records, keeping an inventory of laboratory supplies, placing supply orders, and verifying receipt.
Required Skills
BS/BA required
1-3 years' experience with cellular and molecular biology techniques such as cell culture and molecular cloning (e.g. Gibson assembly and/or yeast-based TAR cloning) required.
Experience with virus preparation and titration, viral growth assays, and microscopy analysis would be highly valued.
