The Nebraska Veterinary Diagnostic Center (NVDC) employs state-of-the-art testing procedures to provide disease surveillance and diagnostic services to veterinarians, livestock producers, pet owners and researchers.
As a Veterinary Microbiology Laboratory Technician III, you will:
Determine, prepare, analyze and interpret microbiological tests in diagnostic and research laboratory for morphological, serological, proteomic, quantity and biochemical characterization of infectious agents including bacteria and parasites.
Perform urinalysis testing.
Conduct antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
Prepare and process clinical and post mortem specimens from animals/environment for microbiological testing.
Prepare reports for veterinarians and animal owners.
Communicate effectively with clientele.
Perform microscopic examination of various stained slides.
Prepare packages for shipment of infectious and non-infections samples.
This position may perform some specialized testing which may include fungal culture, Leptospira testing, Mycoplasma culture, Listeria culture, Salmonella surveillance culture, select agent testing, and virology/serology testing. Testing will be performed under direct supervision. This position will include occasional weekend and holiday rotations.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Associate's degree in microbiology, clinical laboratory technology, or related field + 3 years of lab or related experience or Bachelor's degree in microbiology, clinical laboratory technology, or related field + 1 year of lab or related experience. Knowledge of microbiology including bacteriology, mycology, and parasitology. Good interpersonal and communication skills are needed to allow for clear communication to NVDC clients and staff.
