Job Summary
The Natural Sciences Division of Jefferson Community and Technical College has an anticipated opening for two full-time Biology Instructors. This position will be responsible for full-time instruction in all or two of the following: General Biology & Laboratories, Microbiology & Laboratories, and/or Anatomy & Physiology with Laboratories.
Jefferson Faculty are expected to teach in the format (fully in-person, hybrid, or online) or the location needed. Jefferson has six campus locations: Downtown, Technical, Southwest, Shelby County, Bullitt County, and Carrollton County. (We are very much in need of instructors at our Carrollton, Shelby and Southwest Campuses, if you have a preference for one of these campuses, please mention this in your cover letter.)
Job Duties:
In addition to teaching classes, all full-time instructors are expected to: • Develop courses using modern pedagogical techniques that include student success, retention, and DEI activities • Maintain scheduled office hours for mentoring and coaching students • Use Blackboard Ultra for communication and feedback with students • Use Starfish in advising and instruction • Advise students on academic pathways and support registration • Engage in Internal Service as well as External/Community Service activities • Engage in Professional Development in discipline, teaching, advising, and all aspects of the faculty position and develop as an academic leader.
The Biology Department at Jefferson Community & Technical College encourages a strong emphasis towards Active Learning Techniques in our classrooms. This approach to instruction results in less traditional lecture and more Inquiry Learning from students even in fully online sections. Instructors will be expected to Plan Active Learning and Inquiry Learning activities to implement during class time.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Biology or a Master’s degree in a related field with 18 graduate hours in the Biology discipline. Â
Preferred Qualifications:
Successful candidates for the Anatomy & Physiology position must demonstrate academic preparation in that specific sub-discipline. Successful candidates for the Microbiology position must have earned graduate level credit in a microbiology course. Preferred candidates will have two years of teaching experience including labs. Experience in, and understanding of the importance of, working with students from diverse backgrounds required. This position requires the ability to work in a culturally diverse environment, which consists of frequent contact with a diverse constituency of students, faculty, staff, and the public.
