Job Description: What We Are Looking For
The Wright research group (https://biology.artsandsciences.baylor.edu/person/aaron-wright-phd) in the Departments of Biology and Chemistry & Biochemistry invites applications for a postdoctoral research fellow with expertise in microbiome sciences and/or microbiology. The Wright group is focused on phenotype-driven studies of the gut microbiome and environmental microbiomes. Within this focus, the research group has a strong program in characterizing molecular mechanisms within microbiomes. We are hoping to extend our expertise by identifying exceptionally motivated individuals with a Ph.D. and a background in microbiome sciences, microbiology, and/or meta-omics data analysis.
The qualified applicant must be obtaining or have a doctorate degree and background in microbiome sciences, microbiology, or a closely related field. The candidate must be able to independently design and execute experiments within their field of expertise. Additional skills of interest include experience in one or more of the following areas: microbial culturing, anaerobic culture, microbial bioreactors, carbohydrate metabolism, meta-omic data analysis. The successful candidate will be expected to collaboratively develop novel ideas and methods for applications relevant to funded research programs. The successful candidate will contribute to and may lead the preparation of reports, papers, posters, presentations, etc. Additionally, the candidate will have opportunities to mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
What You Will Do
Develop and execute independent research in phenotype-driven microbiome studies
Perform laboratory research using microbiology, bioreactors, genetics, and related techniques
Keep accurate and current records of all results from experiments performed; document methods and processes
Present your research in group meetings and at national and international meetings
Provide mentorship to graduate and undergraduate students
Participate in the proposal writing and submission process
Other duties as assigned by supervisor
