Visiting Assistant Professor of Microbiology

Husson University’s College of Science and Humanities invites applications for a full-time 18-month Visiting Assistant Professor of Microbiology to begin in spring 2021. Teaching responsibilities will include microbiology, introductory biology, and upper-level courses within the candidate’s area of specialization. This position complements existing programmatic and faculty expertise in the College of Science and Humanities, which currently offers undergraduate degrees in Health Sciences, Biology, and Exercise Science. Science faculty also teach foundational courses for students enrolled in the pre-professional phases of the Nursing, Physical Therapy, and Pharmacy programs at the university. The Husson science faculty have a strong tradition of including undergraduate students in faculty research projects, thus providing experiential learning opportunities for students in our majors. The successful candidate is expected to fulfill the institutional expectations for teaching, departmental service, and support for undergraduate research experiences. Husson University is a private institution of approximately 3500 undergraduate and graduate students located in Bangor, Maine. The University is dedicated to offering premier professional programs designed to maximize experiential learning opportunities and student success. Bangor has been ranked as one of the top 50 small cities in the U.S. It offers a safe, affordable community with excellent education and healthcare, easy access to major urban centers, and a wealth of outdoor recreation opportunities. Year-round activities can be enjoyed on the numerous lakes, trails, and ski areas. The University is approximately 40 minutes west of the Maine coast and the nearby mountains of Acadia National Park and an hour south of the newly designated Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument. The primary responsibilities of this position include teaching undergraduate science courses for students in science majors and in other related programs. The successful candidate will also fulfill faculty expectations for participation in departmental service and providing research opportunities for science majors. The position requires teaching 24 credits per academic year. Note: This is not an online position; candidates are expected to teach on campus.

Requirements for the position include an earned M.S. in Microbiology or an associated field; Ph.D. or ABD preferred. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to effective teaching and student learning, as well as the ability to collaborate across disciplines to develop outstanding educational opportunities for students. Preference will be given to applicants with previous higher education teaching experience in microbiology and experience mentoring student research at the undergraduate level. |
