JOBSUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of an assignedsupervisor, this position has general laboratory oversight for conductingexperiments in bacterial and eukaryotic cells. Assesses the roles of specificproteins in regulating the novel cell division process of Chlamydia
Conducts cloning and expression of proteins in bacterial systems.
Performs PCR amplification and mutagenesis techniques to study protein function during chlamydial cell division.
Performs assays to include agarose and SDS gel electrophoresis and immunoblotting.
Uses microscopic analyses of fixed and live cells using immunofluorescence techniques to evaluate protein functions.
Uses epifluorescence and confocal microscopes to visualize florescent proteins.
Analyzes data using Microsoft Excel.
Generates data for publication using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
Provides supervision to lab technicians, as necessary.
Conducts molecular biology, cloning, protein analysis, microscopy lab maintenance, and figure preparation.
Performs other related duties assigned.
