The Lopez lab will be moving to Washington University in June of 2020. Our laboratory studies the relationship between a virus and the organism it infects. Our goal is to understand how the different components of a virus population affect the infected organism and how this interaction influences the virus evolution and its maintenance in nature. Our multidisciplinary approach to gather an inclusive mechanistic understanding of the processes that result from the interaction of viruses and the infected organism will expose you to a diverse array of techniques and tools, as well as to rich intellectual diversity. Candidates interested in virology, immunology, cell biology or bioinformatics are encouraged to apply.
The Research Laboratory Manager oversees the entire laboratory setting to promote smooth operation, regulatory compliance, and interaction with other laboratories. In addition, the lab manager performs and coordinates research projects as necessary.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs laboratory administrative functions, such as scheduling, purchasing and establishing record keeping systems.
Supervises the daily operations of the lab and ensures the lab complies with institutional and governmental regulations.
Oversees and directs all support activities of the lab including animal colonies, facility maintenance, purchasing, supplies, materials and equipment. Maintains a good relationship with supplier’s representatives.
Assists the PI with grant preparation, journal article submission, travel arrangements, scheduling, etc.
Together with the PI develops and implements policies and procedures. Provides comprehensive direction to laboratory personnel.
Trains and supervises laboratory personnel.
Participates in lab study processes, maintaining records and preparing reports as required. Performs routine experimental procedures.
Researches and recommends new methods and procedures to maintain current capabilities, quality and standards.
Master’s degree with five years of experience in research lab operations or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling twelve years.
Analytical and problem solving research skills.
Ability to communicate in oral and written form with all levels of personnel and for technical publications.
Ability to prioritize tasks in a diverse environment.
The hiring range for this position is $53,830 - $72,675 annually.
