This position will serve as Director of Clinical Microbiology, which oversees the microbiology service functions of the Department of Pathology. OHSU is re-establishing its own clinical microbiology laboratory and this position will be instrumental in building the new laboratory. In addition, this position will work closely with infectious disease to develop new testing paradigms and with research scientists to enhance efforts in microbiology research.
Clinical responsibilities include coverage of the microbiology service at OHSU, including evening call, with back-up from other members of the clinical pathology faculty. Additional clinical pathology expertise is welcomed. Educational responsibilities include participation in the training of residents, fellows, student fellows, medical students and other learners in Pathology. Research is encouraged, including both self-initiated and collaborative projects within OHSU. Administrative responsibilities include oversight of microbiology laboratory operations and collaborative program building together with other OHSU stakeholders and hospital administration; participation in committees and councils of OHSU; outreach and public service programs and professional societies with the knowledge and consent of the Chair.
Board certification in Clinical Pathology, or Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology, or Medical Microbiology.
Interest in providing the highest quality medical care and medical education, and actively participating in clinical scholar-type research resulting in publication.
The best-qualified candidate will be a recognized expert in microbiology, and demonstrate interest in enhancing Clinical Pathology services and test offerings, a willingness to build a new laboratory from the ground up, exceptional communication skills, a positive attitude, and demonstrable leadership skills.
