Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) occurs when antimicrobial treatments such as antibiotics, antivirals, and antiparasitics adapt to become ineffective against the microorganisms they were created to fight, causing infections to persist and spread. Roughly 700,000 human deaths are attributable to AMR each year globally, and if trends continue, AMR could contribute to a total of 350 million deaths by 2050.
The Tufts Center for Integrated Management of Antimicrobial Resistance (CIMAR) is a collaborative and cross-disciplinary initiative with a mission to deliver innovative solutions to combat AMR. Our programs encompass research, policy, and education.
Our team includes researchers and educators from across Tufts University and Tufts Medical Center with expertise in microbiology, infectious disease, engineering, epidemiology, global health, drug development, and policy. Tufts faculty are longstanding leaders in infectious diseases and the varied diverse fields that are critical to address AMR. CIMAR supports the integration of this expertise to provide a connection between discovery and patient care at the individual and population levels, and to ensure a presence of a robust and sustainable workforce with the education and competencies needed to combat AMR and promote stewardship.
CIMAR is organized around three central research areas: (1) combination drug therapies to treat AMR and slow the development of resistant strains, (2) surveillance and stewardship using a One Health approach, and (3) cross-campus educational programs on AMR.
The Programmer Analyst is part of a technical team working with department system users and other IT staff to support and enhance research applications. The ideal candidate is a desktop development that can interface with MATLAB applications to provide user interface for scientific computation, ideally in Python or another high-level cross-platform language. This individual participates in the entire application development lifecycle including: gathering and analyzing business requirements; updating, developing, implementing and testing application software; analyzing potential causes of software and service problems and devising testing methodologies for correction and validation; troubleshooting user issues and documenting solutions, and assisting with the exploration of new technologies and the design of software solutions for the user community. Experience with numerical and scientific computing is a plus, as the candidate may be asked to optimize data structures.
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field and 3+ years of experience.
Individual must possess strong technical skills and experience developing stable and user-friendly applications and demonstrated experience using scripting and numerical analysis software to develop customized solutions including the use of shell commands, python, R, pearl, and MATLAB.
Must be able to work effectively in a team or independent setting.
Must have strong client relationship skills and strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients to understand and interpret their requirements.
Must be able to learn new technologies quickly and to work with minimal supervision.
The preferred candidate will have previous experience in higher education institutions, knowledge of common web technologies and experience working with research scientists who are not themselves expert programmers.
