The Microbiology and Environmental Toxicology Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a Junior Specialist. Under the direction of Professor Victoria Auerbuch Stone, the Junior Specialist will participate in research identifying and characterizing novel antimicrobial compounds. Duties include performing research and lab maintenance, presenting data at group meetings, participating in journal clubs, and assisting with writing research articles. The ideal candidate will have experience carrying out research in a microbiology and/or chemistry lab as an undergraduate.
Applicants with expertise in any of the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply: microbiology, drug discovery, and/or high throughput screening.
ACADEMIC TITLE Junior Specialist
SALARY Minimum $39,500, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in biology or chemistry at the time of application
At least six months of undergraduate research experience
POSITION AVAILABLE September 1, 2019
DURATION OF POSITION Initial appointment will be fulltime for one year, with the possibility of reappointment. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment; a review to assess performance will be conducted. Reappointment is also contingent upon the availability of funding.
