The newly established laboratory of Dr. Florian Douam is looking for a laboratory manager to support innovative research in the field of virology. The Douam Lab is located at the National Emerging Infectious Disease Laboratories (NEIDL) and focuses on defining critical virus-host interactions that govern viral pathogenicity and anti-viral immunity during infection. To do so, we are using cutting-edge humanized mouse models (mouse reconstituted with a human immune system and/or human liver) as well as innovative cell culture-based systems.
The lab manager will have the crucial responsibility of supporting global research effort in the laboratory by conducting key experiments in biocontainment laboratory level 1, 2 and 3, assisting fellow lab members, ordering and monitoring equipment and reagents, as well as training new lab members to good laboratory practices and biosafety procedures.
We are seeking a highly motivated scientist who has a strong interest in understanding how viruses interact with the human host.
At minimum, a Bachelor's degree is required with 1-3 years of laboratory experience. Strong team spirit and good communication skills are crucial. Previous experience in DNA cloning, PCR/qPCR, mammalian cell culture and bacterial transformation is required. Candidate with additional experience in viral vector production and/or RNA extraction/synthesis, multi-color flowcytometry and/or CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene knock-out are strongly encouraged to apply. Previous experience in working in high-biocontainment laboratory level 3 is not required, but the candidate will be expected to go through specific training to work at such biocontainment level. A preference will be given to candidates with the intent to commit to this position for at least 2 years.
The National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories (NEIDL) is part of a national network of secure facilities that study infectious diseases – whether they occur naturally or are introduced deliberately through bioterrorism. The NEIDL is dedicated to the development of diagnostics, vaccines and therapeutics to combat emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases. In addition to Bio Safety Level (BSL)-2 and BSL-3 laboratories, the NEIDL houses BSL-4 laboratories that will operate at the highest level of containment. The NEIDL will add to the growing life sciences industry in the region, throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and across the country.

Medical Clearance Process: includes Research Occupational Health Program (ROHP) evaluation, drug screening, initial psychological screening, and immunization/titer level review completed in accordance with NEIDL Medical Surveillance Policy for all employees working at the NEIDL.
Training and Education: to be completed in accordance with Section 8, Ongoing Personnel Reliability Program, for all employees working at the NEIDL.

Department of Justice Criminal Background Check and Fingerprinting: To be completed in accordance with CDC requirements as part of application to have access to Select Agents.
Select Agent Use Approval: to be completed in accordance with all regulations including the requirements of the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
