Develop, qualify and validate analytical methods. Analyze compounds and maintain documentation of experimental results. Write relevant technical protocols and reports. Assist in the selection, qualification and maintenance of analytical instrumentation. Assist in the preparation and review of regulatory submissions. Mentor others in the group. Keep laboratory notebooks, attend project and group meetings, and perform other job-related duties as required.
Development: Independently plan, conduct, and interpret experiments. Meet with supervisor to review results; define project goals with supervisor. Develop and validate analytical methods. Participate in the conceptualization, design, specification and evaluation of new products, including collaboration with external investigators. Provide support for current products. Interact with customers to provide technical support and troubleshooting.
Technical writing: Write and review LI-COR technical documents such as protocols, manuals and application notes; write and review technical submissions to regulatory agencies; write and review technical papers submitted to refereed scientific journals. Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook and prepare monthly research reports.
Assist in the development and documentation of methods for the analysis, purification and packaging of LI-COR products intended for research, GLP and clinical studies.
Develop and use chromatographic methods for analysis and purification of products: TLC; column chromatography; preparative chromatography; GC and HPLC.
Develop and use instrumental methods for characterization of products: UV/vis; NMR, MS, Fluorescence, KF, pH
Collects and maintains documentation of experimental results and analytical data. Independently scales up reactions.
Generates and implements ideas for process improvements.
MS in Chemistry with 3 years’ lab experience; or
BS/BA from an approved academic institution in Chemistry with 6 years’ laboratory experience; or
AA in Chemistry with at least 9 years’ laboratory experience.
Experience & Skills
Strong understanding and extensive experience in the use of basic and advanced chemistry lab techniques. Experience should include several of the following: analytical methodology applied to the characterization of small molecule organic compounds and biologics; analytical and prep chromatography; organic and fluorescence spectroscopy; method development and validation in accordance with current regulatory expectations.
Extensive experience with a broad range of laboratory instrumentation including, UV/vis and fluorescence spectrometers, HPLC, MS, GC, IR, KF, pH, and interpretation of NMR and MS spectra. Adept at the mathematical operations associated with chemistry. Familiarity with Windows operating environment and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Experience in working in a regulated environment following cGMP, ICH and USP principles is preferred.
Mature scientific judgment and data interpretation abilities.
Clear understanding of biological context and relevance of LI-COR products, and of customer needs and requirements in the field
Effective oral and written communication skills in English. Able to analyze and present experimental results at departmental and project meetings, and at national conferences. Able to write technical documents, reports and regulatory submissions.
Able to facilitate group interactions, and teach others in individual or group settings.
