Lodo Therapeutics discovers and develops breakthrough medicines for some of the greatest challenges in human health: drug-resistant bacterial infections and cancer. Lodo Therapeutics identifies and produces pharmaceutically active secondary metabolites directly from the biosynthetic blueprints encoded in the genomic DNA sequences of soil bacteria. Metagenomic data analysis—not experimental serendipity—drives our discovery of new therapeutics. Unconstrained by traditional culture-based approaches to natural products drug discovery, Lodo Therapeutics accesses a previously overlooked trove of compounds evolutionarily selected for processes essential for life using the tools of bioinformatics and synthetic biology.
Lodo Therapeutics is seeking a hardworking and high-energy molecular/synthetic biologist with expertise in bacterial strain engineering and biosynthetic gene clusters to join our drug discovery team at our laboratories in the Alexandria Center, New York City. The successful candidate, in collaboration with a fast-paced discovery team of bioinformaticians, molecular biologists, biochemists and chemists, will develop and apply molecular biology techniques to drive the discovery, production, manipulation and development of therapeutic secondary metabolites from the microbial metagenome.
Drive platform technology projects in molecular and microbial engineering, including genome editing, biosynthetic gene cluster characterization and engineering, and the expression and production of small molecule metabolites in native or heterologous hosts
Maintain broad knowledge of state-of-the art technologies and current scientific literature in field
Perform equipment and instrumentation set up, maintenance, and verification
Media, buffer, and solution preparation/sterilization and the cleaning of glassware
Aid in keeping the laboratory well-stocked and resourced
Position requires significant laboratory effort
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERENCES:
M.S. with >5 years biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry experience in molecular biology or Ph.D. in molecular biology, synthetic biology, or biochemistry.
Expertise in biosynthetic gene cluster organization, enzymology, and chemical logic of secondary metabolite biosynthesis
Broad experience in molecular/synthetic biology techniques: implementation of CRISPR technology is a must; multiplex cloning, microbial strain engineering, and metabolic pathway refactoring capabilities are preferred.
Experience in microbial fermentation
Self-motivated and passionate about work
Ability to navigate and be successful in a fast-paced, highly interactive and collaborative work environment
Capable of working flexible hours, if required

About Lodo Therapeutics Corporation
Lodo Therapeutics Corporation is a drug discovery and development company focused on the creation of novel therapeutics derived from nature that will impact patients around the world. Lodo seeks to work in partnership with global pharmaceutical companies and world leading non-governmental organizations (NGO’s) to tackle some of the greatest challenges in human health: drug-resistant microbial infections and cancers.
Lodo Therapeutics was created to pursue the scientific vision of Dr. Sean Brady at Rockefeller University. Lodo Therapeutics identifies and produces bioactive natural products directly from the microbial DNA sequence information contained in soil. Lodo believes that the potential cures for a number of deadly and/or debilitating diseases literally lie at our feet. Information encoded in bacterial genomes, not experimental serendipity, drives our discovery of new medicines. Not constrained by traditional culture-based approaches to natural products drug discovery, Lodo Therapeutics has unlocked a vast trove of overlooked compounds evolutionary selected for processes essential for life.
Lodo Therapeutics, an Accelerator Corporation-backed entity, is headquartered i...n New York City. The company’s lab and offices are located in the Alexandria Center for Life Science, New York City’s first and only premier life science park.
