The Molecular Microbiology Imaging Facility is a shared user core facility that provides fluorescence, confocal, and transmission electron microscopy to all members of the Washington University community. We are seeking an experienced microscopist in fluorescence, confocal, and transmission electron microscopy.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Train users on fluorescence and confocal microscope operation, assist and advise users as needed, provide image analysis and quantitation services.
Process samples for transmission electron microscopy. This includes all duties required for/or related to successful processing (fixation, sample handling and processing, sectioning, staining, immunolabeling). To assure compliance with defined research protocols and consistency in carrying out those protocols.
Developing basic competence using transmission electron microscope and evaluating samples. In addition, training and/or assisting individuals on the electron microscope.
Perform general duties necessary for the successful day-to-day operation of the lab such as ordering, checking inventory of supplies, maintenance of equipment, making reagents, and record keeping.
Equivalent of Bachelor’s degree with 2-3 years of experience in laboratory operations.
Bachelors degree in biology or related field.
Experience with standard light microscopy, wide-field fluorescence microscopy, and confocal microscopy.
Experience with common sample preparation and staining techniques for fluorescence microscopy.
Experience with, or ability to learn, transmission electron microscopy processing and image acquisition.
Basic scientifc math/calculations skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential to work with multiple users on a variety of scientific projects that extend beyond microbiology to all areas of biomedical research.
Ability to work independetly and maintain complete and organized records/reports.
Working knowledge of computer (PC and Mac) software and general lab equipment.

The hiring range for this position is $15.46 - $20.88 per hour.
