The Department of Microbiology and Environmental Toxicology at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an assistant professor (tenure track) level position in the area of how organisms are affected by environmentally-derived stressors, such as chemical, biological, or microbial agents. We are particularly interested in candidates pursuing mechanistically-driven research that mines the interface of organism-contaminant-microbe interactions. Possible broader areas of research might include exposome/exposure biology, contaminant mechanisms of action, microbiome-organism or microbiome-contaminant interactions, mechanisms of host defense against environmental stressors, and use of bioinformatic or other computational approaches to address problems in environmental health. Candidates should have evidence of a well-developed research trajectory, and experience and/or demonstrated potential for teaching and mentoring at the graduate and undergraduate levels. The successful applicant will be expected to develop a robust extramurally-funded research program, advise and mentor Ph.D. and M.S. degree students, and teach graduate and undergraduate courses within the areas of environmental and organismal health. This position carries academic and service responsibilities for the department and university. RANK: Assistant Professor
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience; academic year (9-month) basis
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or equivalent foreign degree in an area related to environmental health sciences, toxicology, or biomolecular sciences field; at least one year of postdoctoral experience at time of application; and a demonstrated research record.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Interest in and demonstrated record of teaching/mentoring students at the graduate and/or undergraduate levels, including students from diverse backgrounds; experience in interdisciplinary research.
