40%: Research, design and implement lab experiments Microbiology, Yeast Genetics and Virology for teaching purposes. Conduct investigations of experiments to aid in the adaptation of new student exercises or resolution of problematic student exercises for successful undergraduate and medical student experimentation.
15%: Employ a wide variety of standard and experimental techniques to conduct preparations of chemical, physiological, and microbiological specimens to include bacteria, yeast and viruses, to be used for student microbiology laboratories. Prepare biological specimens, chemicals, glassware, supplies and equipment for student microbiology laboratories.
10%: Set up, operate, maintain, calibrate, modify and adapt a wide variety of instruments, equipment, and apparatus used for teaching purposes. Calculate and analyze data generated by equipment. Assist in writing of technical reports on the data that is generated.
10%: Teach microbiology theory and techniques to undergraduate students and medical students.
5%: Write protocols, tabulate and graph data while maintaining detailed technical workbooks on all procedures. Write routine summary reports on results of work and confer with supervisor and professors on the interpretation of results and avenues of further investigations.
5%: Assign and direct work of technicians, students and teaching assistants. Supervise and observe procedures, techniques and manipulations of one Research Professional 1 and one student worker and check results obtained to maintain quality and consistency.
5%: Confers with professors, teaching assistants, and other staff personnel in drafting work schedules and plans to execute complex laboratory exercises.
5%: Inventory and order supplies and perform general lab maintenance as necessary.
5%: Select and review current scientific literature to suggest relevant facts, methods, techniques, and procedures applicable to the teaching lab. Discusses with supervisor and professors possible approaches to the problematic student exercises.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Must be mentioned on application/resume): A Bachelor's degree with a major in Microbiology with at least one year of experience, or a combination of education and work to equal five years.
